This is NOT a fun game!

My son has a new game he likes to play that he thinks is really funny. It's called "Roll Over on the Changing Table While Mommy or Daddy is Trying to Change My Diaper or Dress Me." Not funny, kid.At first I was really resisting - rolling over on the changing table is dangerous and, especially if someone else is changing him who isn't prepared for him flinging himself around, he could fall. However, besides him getting really angry and screaming whenever I try to prevent him from rolling over, it takes both hands to restrain him and then I can't do whatever I have him on the changing table for in the first place. I did some searching online and found that this is a very common problem, and most people said they never found a solution. Lots said that they can offer a "contraband" item that baby isn't usually allowed to play with (wipes, tube of cream, clean diaper, etc.) to distract the baby long enough to do a fast change. Doesn't work with my child. He prefers to play on his tummy. So I've now perfected the art of changing a diaper/dressing him while he's laying on his tummy. That was really interesting with a dirty diaper this morning! I'm hoping this is just a phase and he'll grow out of it...

1) don't get your hopes up on it ending soon
2) let us know if you find a solution

I had to just start changing C on the floor of her room. It also helps to change the scenery...we change her on the couch sometimes and she isn't as rolly!

It just gets worse! Now Noah tries to roll over and stand up! I've often thought, "If I had pinned him down and fought harder against him turning would have I trained him better?" Because I think I was glad that he had learned this but man! But I do switch out his "changing toy" to something he's not played with for a while and it'll sometimes work. And the floor has worked a time or to but usually it's worse b/c he tries to crawl away. Anyway, if you try the "fighting harder" let me know if it works because that way I'll know if we have other children what to do!

Well, we do the toy thing and Ian will sometimes play with a package of wipes that crinkles and such. We have these baskets that hang above the changing table that USED to have creams and such in them. Now, they store washcloths, and he enjoys dumping those out. Maybe try using a washcloth or burp cloth to play a little peek-a-boo perhaps.

Or, we often have to tag team it... Ian has a poopy first thing in the morning, so I make sure John helps me change it before he goes to work.

Yikes...but at least Eli has room to roll over. Carina learned on Sunday morning that she doesn't. Poor baby. I've discovered that giving her her toothbrush keeps her distracted long enough for me to get her diaper changed while on her back.

Jacob does the same thing- so I use a brush or tube of aquaphor to try and distract, and also tap a plane hanging above him on the ceiling so he looks at that. But... he still is pretty persistent- a man on the move- and that's where we fight about it and I find myself explaining that "no, we have to stay still while Mommy changes you" as if he can understand my logic. The "no" part is difficult, as he is getting into everything these days! I only change him on the changing table, unless we aren't at home because I want it to be a standard place he knows he has to be still and obey while we dress, change, etc. No one said this would be easy right??
